Reviews Overview

Most Liked

The standout feature at The Old Bakehouse has to be their breakfast offerings. Omelettes are available all day, with options like cheese and mushroom that diners rave about. The steak pie receives high praise for its tender meat and flavorful gravy, reminiscent of comforting home-cooked meals.

Another highlight is the dessert menu. Guests love the approachable treats, like cheesecake and trifle, which strike the right balance without overwhelming sweetness. A warm, welcoming atmosphere shines through, with attentive staff creating a friendly vibe that makes every visit enjoyable. Additionally, the strong coffee and wide tea selection provide the perfect pairing with any meal.

Most Disliked

While many aspects of The Old Bakehouse receive glowing reviews, a common complaint is the cash-only policy. Some visitors find this outdated in today’s digital age, leading to inconvenience for those who prefer card payments.

During peak hours, the café can become crowded and may require a wait for a table. Morning and lunchtime rushes often see high traffic, particularly on Saturdays, which can detract from the laid-back experience guests expect. Some diners have also expressed a desire for more variety on the menu, particularly in their vegan and vegetarian options as well as specials that change regularly to keep the offerings fresh.

On the way to Edinburgh we looked for somewhere to stop for breakfast. Amazing place, lovely lady serving us with yummy breakfast. Didn’t take picture of breakfast because we finished it so fast 😂 but managed to do coffee. Thank you and from us 5 out of 5

Local cafe that serves top quality British food. Served by fast paced attentive staff with great attitudes and service. This hidden gem gets busy and only takes cash not card which is a lovely tradition. My children enjoyed their desserts and wanted to tip the staff a little for their hard work.

Oh this beautiful café is a real find, tucked away of the main drag, in a cute side street that goes on towards the Stepping Stones across the Wansbeck. We were given a really warm welcome and had our suitcases as we'd just arrived from Birmingham and our apartment wasn't ready. They were really lovely and accommodating. OMLETTES are on the menu !!!!💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕🙏🏻💕 🥚 🪺 And they serve them all day !!! Mine was a double cheese and mushroom omlette and it was delicious. The Man had the Steak Pie and omg that isn't a pie, it's sensational - the meat is plentiful, melt in the mouth and the gravy is delicious, this is home cooked food like your grandma used to make, it's REAL, traditional food and tastes really good because it's high quality food! We had a trifle and a cheesecake for dessert, both were gorgeous and what we really loved, they were not full of sugar, like modern desserts are, these were just right. If you're sick of slick modern try-to-hard cafes, come here for some real soul, warm hearted banter and decent food 💕💗💕🌷🌼

Really friendly cafe with seating outside for dogs. Our group of five split up and three were inside and two of us outside. There is an awning to cover you from the rain (and it was a bit miserable) and they extended it for us. The food was fresh and the homemade lentil and vegetable soup and a toastie hit the spot. I’m told the roast pork baps with roasties and gravy were delicious. Very friendly cafe and great food, what’s not to like

Absolutely outstanding food, if it was awarded Mitchellin Stars, it would get 6. Just like your nans home cooking without the ridiculous prices. Very popular but seats inside become available very quickly. Outside seating for the good weather. Staff are brilliant. Just behind the main street under the arch. Well worth the trip to Morpeth.
